TATTOO
AFTER CAREÂ
Taking proper care of your new tattoo is essential for optimal healing and to ensure that your tattoo looks its best. Follow these detailed instructions to help your Tattoo heal properly:
Immediate Aftercare (First 24 Hours)
Leave the Bandage On: Your tattoo artist will cover your new tattoo with a sterile bandage or plastic wrap. Leave this bandage on for at least 2-4 hours, or as instructed by your artist. This protects the tattoo from bacteria and prevents irritation.

Wash Your Hands: Before touching your tattoo, always wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap to avoid introducing any bacteria to the area.
Remove the Bandage: After the initial 2-4 hours, carefully remove the bandage. Do this gently to avoid damaging the tattoo or causing pain.
Clean the Tattoo: Wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Use your fingertips to clean the area softly; avoid using a washcloth or sponge, which can be too harsh.
Pat Dry: After washing, pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel or a soft cloth. Do not rub, as this can irritate the skin. Apply a Thin Layer of Ointment: Once dry, apply a thin layer of a recommended ointment (like Aquaphor or a tattoo-specific aftercare balm). Avoid using too much, as this can suffocate the tattoo and delay healing.
Days 2-7: Healing Phase
Wash Twice a Day: Continue to gently wash your tattoo twice a day (morning and evening) with mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water. Always pat dry with a clean towel.
Moisturize: After washing, apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer or a tattoo-specific aftercare lotion. Do this 3-4 times a day to keep the tattoo moisturized but not overly greasy.
Avoid Submersion: Do not submerge your tattoo in water. Avoid baths, swimming pools, hot tubs, and oceans. Quick showers are fine, but avoid letting the shower stream hit your tattoo directly.
Avoid Tight Clothing: Wear loose, breathable clothing to avoid friction and irritation on the tattooed area.
Weeks 2-4: Ongoing Care
Continue Moisturizing: Keep moisturizing your tattoo 2-3 times a day with a fragrance -free lotion or tattoo aftercare product. This helps prevent itching and peeling.
Avoid Sun Exposure: Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight. UV rays can fade and damage a new tattoo. If you must be outside, wear loose clothing that covers the tattoo.
No Scratching or Picking: Your tattoo may start to peel and itch during this phase. Do not scratch, pick, or peel the scabs, as this can cause scarring and affect the appearance of your tattoo.
Avoid Submersion: Do not submerge your tattoo in water. Avoid baths, swimming pools, hot tubs, and oceans. Quick showers are fine, but avoid letting the shower stream hit your tattoo directly.
Long-Term Care
Sun Protection: After your tattoo is fully healed, always apply a high SPF sunscreen to the area when exposed to the sun. This helps maintain the vibrancy and prevents fading.
Moisturize Regularly: Keep the skin hydrated by regularly applying a moisturizer. Healthy, hydrated skin keeps your tattoo looking vibrant and sharp.
Regular Check-ups: If you notice any signs of infection (such as excessive redness, swelling, pus, or severe pain), or if you have any concerns about the healing process, contact your tattoo artist or a healthcare professional immediately.
